About Us
At Boardwalk we create high quality, environmentally responsible furniture, products and installations from folded cardboard.
Boardwalk began with its roots in Finland, the country of paper. Surrounded by forests, naturally we love wood-based materials derived from nature. Boardwalk was inspired out of a desire to make high quality, sustainable solutions for events, exhibitions, trade shows and festivals in volume.
The reason we use cardboard is that this one, simple material has a warm and beautiful surface and possesses great versatility and strength. Our fascination with cardboard and a love of practical design, led us to focus on a sustainable path and design thinking. Temporary and permanent, consumer culture, sustainability and how we can combine these in conscious design today, are the challenges that we face. We are on a journey and aim to reduce environmental impact.
Boardwalk is made up of a team of creatives; designers, architects, cardboard engineers, and graphic designers. Our production facility is in Finland, utilising the nationwide network specialising in cardboard manufacture and print.
Boardwalk was founded by designer Hanna Laikola who was never interested in the toy, but the box it came in.

Boardwalk materials are tested and approved for high performance. Cardboard is stronger than what is generally perceived and can withstand more than is usually required. Cardboard has outstanding printability and appearance making it incredibly versatile with a wide range of printing options for perfect results and exceptional colour rendering.

Quality and strength, lasting for years
Our products are built with a grade of cardboard that has great strength, is thin and crisp to fold and can be reused time and time again. Our larger structures use lightweight, recycled honeycomb board, lasting for years.
We use innovative, state of the art printing and manufacturing methods for an exceptional print finish. Boardwalk products are designed to be easy to assemble. The designs are such that the material, our style of folding and shape combined, will deliver a quality product from all aspects.
